Continuing Education/Proffessional Enrichment
I love what I do, and always take the opportunity to continue my orthodontic education. I annually attend four or five professional meetings where I keep current with the latest developments in orthodontics. The more I know about efficient and effective modern treatments, the better the services I am able to offer my patients. I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontcis and am very active in the orthodontic professional societies. I have served in the American Association of Orthodontics as chairman of the Council on Membership, Ethics, and Judicial Concerns and currently serve on the National Council on Orthodontic Education. I have served on numerous committees and have been President of the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists and have received the prestigious Dewey Award. I now serve as chairman of the Faculty Support Committee for the various orthodontic departments in our southwest United States region.
In addition to devoting my time to our orthodontic practice, I also maintain my career as Professor at the University of Texas Health and Science Center at Houston where I have received the Dean's Excellence in Teaching Award several times and have been honored to receive the Yellen-Schoverling Award. By teaching, mentoring, and attending extensive continuing education courses, I always keep my practice on the cutting edge of orthodontic technology and development.
In the Practice
Being an orthodontist is more than just a job to me. I get to help the people of my community, and see my profession as a public service. I am always inspired to do my best for my patients, and love getting to know them personally. I am honored that they put their trust in me and allow me to be in their lives for a short time.
As a father, a teacher, and a doctor, I always appreciate hearing of my patients’ interests and endeavors, and I encourage young people to pursue their goals. I understand the value of self-esteem and I know that the beautiful smiles I create can help my patients attain a more positive self image. Helping to build someone’s confidence is one of the most rewarding aspects of orthodontics!
Family Life
I have been married to the lovely Cathy Bussa for 41 years. Cathy enjoyed her long career as an art teacher at St. Francis Episcopal Day School and is currently a busy artist. Both of our daughters were well educated in the Katy Independent School District and graduated from Vanderbilt and the University of Virginia. I enjoy spending time with my wife, daughters, son-in-law, grandchildren and granddogs. Whenever possible, I love heading to South Texas to bow hunt and go on fishing trips with friends.
